CARE & MATERIALS
Ecoalf reclaimed fishing nets/ recycled polyester PET. The fabric stems from a project called Tapestry of the Sea that reclaimed waste fishing nets discarded in the Mediterranean, which endangered marine life and biodiversity, and turned it into fabric. The project was further developed as part of the Happy Digital X (HDX) Course at United in Diversity Foundation. The project team created a shawl with artwork by Marcos Kueh showcasing eco themes with Indonesian design. This project has happily launched further collaborations helping the move to a greener future.
The Cherie is full length single seam column dress with knot detail. The straps are detachable, and it comes with a loop stole. It has been designed and made for Ms. Cherie Nusalim on the event of the THK Forum marking the G20 in Bali, Indonesia November 2022.
HISTORY OF THE CREATION
Using zero waste pattern making techniques, this dress and matching stole is a collaboration between textile weaver Marcos Kueh and fashion designer Isaac Raine. We aim to make a timeless piece that will bring joy and endure, as a return to non-disposable fashion. Removing plastic waste from the sea mitigates environmental damage and converts a waste product into a valuable and lasting resource. Making this piece into a timeless piece we further ensure its longevity, defying fashion seasonality and disposability.
